Who ordered snow? Better question, who ordered it in time to interfere with my Wednesday knitting! I tried, got out of the garage, and found i was driving on 2″ of the stuff and it was still falling from the sky, still is, last I checked. Needless to say I didn’t make it to knitting. I did make it to the mailbox to find one of our neighbors, had just spent the last 45 minutes driving the last 3.5 miles to our complex. Glad I didn’t make it to knitting, as I like spending the night at home and not in my Highlander.

For the person that ordered the snow, couldn’t you have ordered it for 9:30 pst, so I could have actually made it to knitting?

Well, DH and I decided to take off for Pasadena for a week, and silly me, I keep forgetting to take pics, but there has been plenty of knitting and spinning, as I’ve spent quite a bit of time with mah Knitta’s the last couple of days.

See progress, this just had the back down to the arms when i left Seattle, but now, well it’s a front and a back down to the sleeves, collar is done, and i’m an inch or so below the underarm.

We’re hitting the road again today, to head up for Canby Oregon, to go to OFFF, I’m taking a day long spinning class on Sunday and want to get some shopping time in tomorrow, can’t go to a fiber festival without doing some shopping now can I. Right now we’re sitting at a Toyota dealer, no I didn’t break my truck yet, but I did manage to pick up a screw on our trip down to San Diego yesterday, once that’s done we’ll be on our way.

I’ll regale you with my pictureless rendtion of my knitterly exploits later. Thanks again to TC Marie for a wonderful time this week, and I love the house and you will finish with all the rest of those boxes soon.

See the crosswalk? Well that’s at the back of the queue to load the ferry boat. See the cop? he’s standing in the middle of the street directing traffic. See the spectators…they’re all wondering why is this guy parked in the middle of the street. yes you read that right. This individual saw fit to park in the middle of the street. When he returned he was lucky to find his truck still there, the tow truck had been called but hadn’t showed up yet. The cop was nice and didn’t ticket the man. But when asked by the cop why he parked in the middle of the street, his response, “Because all the lines were full and there was space” The cop just shook his head and said under his breath, but loud enough for all to hear “and we haven’t even hit the busy season yet”

A little over 11 months ago, I took a 1 year contract position, which is due to end at the end of March. Well that contract will be ending just a tad sooner than originally anticipated as I was offered the same position, but as a full time employee, and I’ve accepted, so I’ll be starting my “new” job on 3/10.

Silly me, went and bought yet another wheel this weekend, the Majacraft Rose. No worries, I didn’t go for any long drives, I bought the wheel from a friend, who isn’t quite as happy with it as she though she would be. It’s a wheel I’ve been looking at for a while now and was planning on buying in a few months anyway, so now I don’t have to.

Pictures? What are those? there are some of the new wheel around here somewhere, I know DH took some, but if you want to see the new wheel in the mean time, you can see some here, it’s the one with the rose engraved on it.

Sorry all, I totally spaced the camera again, so no pics from Madrona. I did come out alive but I’m not sure my wallet survived day 3. I swear I’m going to get around to taking pics, hopefully some time this week.

So Day 1 I took a Make it Fit class, who knew so much work went into making something fit you. We took measurements, don’t ask what mine are I’m not telling *wink*. Learned about body types, I’m mostly an X shape. Learned about darts and short rows and where to put them and a whole host of other things that are still settling into my brain. The class was informative, fun and exhausting at the same time. By the end of the day, it was all I could do to get some grub and back to my room. By necessity the Make it Fit class was here’s a bunch of information, absorb it and take notes.

Day 2 was a class in Spinning Worsted and Woolen. A very good counterbalance to my prior day’s class. This was a more relaxed class, not in information but in teaching style. The class format was more here’s a handout with the basic differences, now here’s how you do it. The morning was spent learning Woolen preperation and spinning, she showed us how to do it then gave us fiber and set us free, while she wandered around the room critiquing and answering questions. We did the same thing in the afternoon for Worsed prep and spinning. Lots of fun and there were at least 5 of us from my spinning group in that class.

Day 3, no classes, but I went down to spin with my spinning group, as always a good time was had by all, with periodic excursions back into the market. Sachi came over for the day too, we had a great time catching up as always. She’s looking for a 2nd wheel, so there may be a trip in our nearish future to Woodland Woolworks to “visit” the wheels they have there.

Oh and I’ve been meaning to mention this for a few weeks now and just clean forgot. I’ve been beta testing Knit Visualizer 2.0 for a few months now, and all I really have to say about the software is…..WOW. Version 2.0 now can handle color, has apsect ratio setting so you can actually chart fair isle in color on a knitters graph. The biggest feature in this release, IMHO, and the greatest, again IMHO, is that you can now create your own stitches. Not only using KV font, but JKnits font is built in as well. You can also use any font that is on your computer. You can create any stitch you’d like and even change the foreground and background color of the stitch. Go check it out, this is an amazing piece of charting design software.

Oh I do have a pic to share:

This is what I saw on my way into work this morning, through the fog, I was actually able to capture his pic with my camera phone. I see it quite often, but it rarely translates into something I can capture with my camera phone.

Can I just say wow. My brain is fried from yesterday’s Make it Fit class, I’m still absorbing what I learned but I swear my brains are still leaking out my ears. Today’s Worsed and Woolen Class, great counterpoint to yesterday’s class. The Make it Fit was more of a structured class, where information was given, and given and given….it’s a lot of info. I can already see where it’s going to complement the 3 month every other Monday, Design Your Own Sweater class I’m taking at an LYS and enhance it. I just started that class and already I know 2 different ways to take measurements that complement each other. In the spinning class, it was much less structured, sort of here’s the information, some examples on how to spin woolen and prepare the fiber, lots of sample fibers, then after lunch more examples, this time on how to spin worsted and fiber prep and more fiber samples. I was in this class with 5 other ladies that I spin with regularly, and it was a lot of fun. Tomorrow I’m heading back down, to spin with my spinning group, but most of all to spend some time with Sachi.

I forgot to bring a camera, and even if I had brought one, I probably would have completely forgotten I had it. Maybe tomorrow I’ll remember one.

Oh the Market, I though I was good until I emptied out my trunk, more on that later, once I’m sure the shopping has stopped.

Please make it go away. I decided it would be safer to leave work early and work from home the rest of the day… Oh how right I was. It took me about 20 – 25 min to get home….but take a look at this.

5″ of snow sitting in my driveway!

Heck, this isn’t even my driveway, it’s next door, but my car decided to try and get in there. Didn’t make it

This is what stood between me and my garage for 45 min! yes there is a path NOW, but that was a lot of hard work on my part. I was stuck. See where the slush is? That’s where my car was stuck!

Here’s what it looked like after I finally got my car in. There is a slight incline up to our town house.

Here’s my car safte and sound. Yes it does sit that low to the ground, and yes I’m not going anywhere until enough of this melts that I don’t have to worry about high centering my car. She’s tucked in nice and safe.

This is from the window in my office near the desk.

I would have taken pictures before leaving my house this morning, but it was dark and there was a lot of snow, and it was still snowing. There was a good 3 – 4″, any more than that and my poor little car would have been a snow plow. I park in a garage at home, so there was no snow on my car when I left my house, but by the time I got to work, there was about as much snow on my car as you see on the ground in these pictures, and we’re expecting more tonight. Before you think I’m a snow wimp, it doesn’t normally snow in Seattle and people here drive like they do in So. Cal in a heavy rain, when it comes to snow. Neither is weather you want to be on the roads for.

I caught this pic of him and one skein of yarn on New Year’s day. Yes he really did try and keep the skein of yarn. He’s been known to do this not only with new yarn, but with fiber as well.

The yarn? Mirasol Miski, 100% Baby Llama.

So what’s on the needles now.

Well, I got a little carried away on New Year’s day and cast on not 1 but 2 sweaters, and Shedir. I’m also working slowly but steadily on the edging of the Wings of Fantasy Shawl I cast on forever ago. Earl Grey Socks, I’m almost to the heel of the first one. Still plugging away on Annemor # 16 from Selbuvotter. Cheri Amour has been pulled out of hibernation. Dad’s never ending golf shirt is again out of hibernation, hopefully I’ll finish it this year (I’m not kidding, I’m really going to try and finish it this year, and yes I know I’ve said it before, but this time <strike>I think</strike> I mean it). Oh and I’ve got some of my hand spun OTN, I’m knitting up the Flower Basket Shawl.

So it looks like I’m starting the New year with 9 active projects, I guess that really does make me a true ADD knitter.
