Lessons Learned

While I’m not out of the Knit Off yet and I’m not ready to throw in the towel. I really do need to share my frustrations.

1. If you’re going to run a contest or anything that needs moderation be prepared to commit to it. I am very frustrated by the organizer of the KO.

There is a Yahoo group, but the Moderator of the contest does not appear to be monitoring or responding to the group. Example 1: She sent out an email saying to sned her an email at said address, but Yahoo screened the email address so all we got to se was everthing before the @ and the @, in other words we have no clue what the domain is for her email address and it’s not the same address that is on her blog or that she used to set up the Yahoo group. Example 2: Insturcitons were to knit the required number of rows, well the pattern say to knit until x inches. We’re not all using the same yarns, people are knitting until they are out of yarn, there are scarves that are being completed and called done at a mere 30″ or so.

2. I have confirmed my very reason for not knitting commisioned works. I dread the process of having to knit for a dead line that is not self imposed on a pattern that I didn’t chose. I knit because I love to knit, it’s fun. If I happen to have something to wear, use or gift at the end of the day all the better. I am a process knitter and not a product knitter. I do not race to the end of a project just to get there, I have several WIPs to prove it and some day I may have to parade my WIP’s hall of shame for you all.

3 . I love love love my Addi Turbo’s and miss knitting with them I know this is a strange lesson, but here’s the story behind that. When Options needles came out I fought the urge to buy any. I finally gave in and bought a complete set, enjoyed knitting with them so much, I’ve been using them since they showed up on my door step for anything that used a #4 - #11 needle. Not so much on the #10 and higher, since that’s what my Denise needles are for. Denise gets pulled out for projects that will eventually be felted, thick wools, and Moebius’s. Anyway, I was getting frustrated with my Options on this particular project, so out came my trused Addi’s. I miss them, they miss me. I will be using my Addi’s more equally with my Options needles and not just on my socks.

Ok, now that I’ve vented a bit, I’m heading back to knitting this scarf. Honestly, if the moderator doesn’t respond back to the group in 24 hours, I will withdraw from this contest, the scarf will likely go on a shelf, if it’s incomplete to await another day. I do not want to resent this scarf and I don’t want it to resent me, I do like the pattern and it’s not something that I would have chosen to knit if not for the KO, so there really are some good things that came out of this.

**ETA: Less than an 30 minutes after this poting, said moderator has finally checked in with the group, and ruled that 72 rows of the CC will be considered done.  I’ve got 22 rows, so 50 more to go, I’m off to knit some more.
